What is JEE Mains? & Why JEE Mains?

JEE Mains(Joint Entrance Examination) is an Engineering Entrance examination for admission into Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by participating State Governments and other Institutions. The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be considered for JEE (Advanced), which the candidate should appear for getting admitted into the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.

    Between 06.01.2020 to 11.01.2020

Important Points in JEE Mains 2020:

  • The JEE (Main)-2020 will be conducted twice before admissions from this academic session.
    The first attempt of JEE (Main) – 2020 will be held in January, 2020 whereas the second attempt will be held in April, 2020. The test will be held on different shifts/dates in both the attempts. The NTA will release the application form of JEE (Main)-2020 for the first attempt in September, 2019 and for the second attempt in February, 2020.

    The students will have the following benefits of the new pattern:

    1. This will give one more opportunity to the student to improve their scores in examination if they fail to give their best in first attempt without wasting their whole academic year.
    2. In first attempt, the students will get a first-hand experience of taking an examination and to know their mistakes which they can improve while attempting for the second time.
    3. The student’s best of the two scores will be considered for preparation of Merit List/ Ranking.
  • There shall be No weightage for the 12th class marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE (Main) examination

Eligibility for appearing in JEE (Main) – 2020

Date of Birth:

For appearing in the JEE (Main) examination there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed XII examination in 2018, 2019 or appearing in 2020 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE (Main) Examination – 2020 and the candidate must passed/appearing with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject.

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination:

Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2019 or 2020; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2020 are eligible to appear in both January, 2020 and April, 2020 JEE (Main)-2020 Examination.

Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination:

Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/ qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main) – 2020.

For the candidates to qualify for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other GFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE (Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.

Application Procedure:

4 Simple Steps to be followed to apply online

  1. Register for the Online Application Form, choose your Password and note down system generated Application Number.
  2. Complete the Application Form Candidate can login with the system generated Application Number and created Password for completing the Application Form .
  3. Upload Scanned Images of Photograph and Signature
  4. Pay Examination Fee by debit/credit card/Net Banking/UPI/PAYTM of Syndicate/SBI/ICICI/HDFC Bank.

Seat Allocation Process and Admission Procedure:

  • Candidates shall be offered admission based on their choices and All India Ranks of JEE (Main)-2020 through a Seat Allocation Process
  • The candidates will be able to make their choices online for branches/programmes and institutes at appropriate time.
  • The verification of documents would be done after the Seat Allocation Process.
  • Gen-EWS, SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates will be required to produce original certificate as per prescribed formats issued by the competent authority at the time of Seat Allocation Process as well as at the time of admission, failing which they will not be considered for admission.
